Overview

Salt architecture

• Salt is a client/server application.
• The Salt server is a virtual appliance that runs on a VMware virtual platform. Each Salt virtual appliance includes a complete set of Salt apps.
• When installing Salt, users install a small ABAP component on their SAP systems. This allows the Salt server to communicate with these systems.
• Users access Salt apps through a web browser or through the SAP GUI.
• Salt can be used free of charge

Salt is free software

You can download, install and use Salt for free with up to three SAP systems, including one development system. If you are not familiar with the VMware infrastructure required to run Salt, that is not a problem. Our installation video shows you how to install Salt on VMware Player, also available for free.

If you have tried Salt for free and decide you would like to run Salt against more systems, you can purchase a Professional or Enterprise subscription. Users who purchase a subscription can also access Salt support.

Salt's licensing model

• Salt licensing is subscription-based.
• Users who wish use Salt for free are granted a free twelve month subscription. This free subscription is renewable every twelve months at no cost.
• Users who wish to use Salt against more than three systems, or who want support must purchase a Professional or Enterprise subscription.
